The Cyber Security Coordinator (the Coordinator), supported by the National Office of Cyber Security (NOCS), is responsible for leading cyber security preparedness activities across government and industry. 

These activities are primarily delivered through consequence management and coordination exercises - simulated scenarios that help ensure Australia’s cyber and crisis response arrangements are integrated, practised, and well understood across the entire Australian economy.

Alongside participating in exercises, the NOCS designs and conducts its own cyber security exercises focused on rehearsing and evaluating consequence management capabilities, identifying coordination gaps, and testing entities’ understanding and effectiveness of their incident response and communication plans. 

The NOCS exercise philosophy centres on a structured approach to practice, validate and refine our stakeholder’s ability to respond to cyber incidents by simulating real-world scenarios in a controlled, low-risk and trusted environment.

Additional preparedness activities include delivering educational products to strengthen cyber readiness, engaging broadly with industry and government stakeholders, and sharing lessons learned from previous cyber security incidents to raise awareness and improve overall resilience.
